This statement comes as the contractor appointed to electrify the Qolweni Informal Settlement in Ward 3, goes on site this week. The contractor will be electrifying 104 new houses and performing 180 upgrades to existing meters.

Bitou Municipality is committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to address safety concerns at the airport so that flight landings can resume as soon as possible. These concerns led the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) to suspend the airport's license in July 2024, thus preventing flights from landing.

The Bitou Municipality Council has resolved to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Plett Shark Spotters Non-Profit Organisation – a move that will see holidaymakers feel safer in Bitou’s Blue Flag beaches.
The council resolved this week to contribute an amount of R800 000 towards the employment costs of the 14 Plett Shark Spotters on an annual basis for a period of 3 years.

Some of the service delivery challenges experienced by Bitou Municipality have been attributed to the aging vehicles within its fleet. Therefore, to address this matter, the municipality made provision for a significant overhaul of the fleet in the 2023/24 financial year. The municipality has invested R14 million in acquiring vehicles for various departments.
