Bitou Municipality has upped the ante in its bid to improve its service delivery offering.

This is as the municipality unveiled its new fleet this week.

The municipality has acquired 5 bakkies, a TLB and a small private vehicle for its service delivery departments.

This includes two double-cab bakkies for the water services section, one single-cab bakkie for the fleet management section, one double-cab bakkie for the meter readers section, and one single-cab bakkie for the roads section.

The corporate service department also scored a small private vehicle.

These vehicles come after the municipality conducted an overhaul of its fleet at the end of 2023.

At the end of 2023, the municipality acquired two compactor trucks, a front-end loader, two LDVs for the electrical section, two LDVs for the water services section, and a traffic services vehicle.

Bitou’s Executive Mayor, Councillor Jessica Kamkam, expressed excitement for new vehicles.

She said: “The acquisition of the new fleet demonstrates Bitou Council’s commitment to improving service delivery, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring that our teams are equipped to do their jobs effectively.

“The current draft of the municipal capital budget also makes provision for the continued expansion of the fleet, particularly within key service delivery departments.

“This reflects the Council’s long-term commitment—initiated in the 2022/23 budget cycle—to replacing redundant vehicles and strengthening the capacity of our current fleet.

Her words were echoed by the Portfolio Chairperson for Engineering and Community Services, Councillor Annelise Olivier.

Councillor Olivier said: “These new resources will help us respond faster, improve efficiency, and ensure our community gets the quality services it deserves.”

Meanwhile, Bitou Municipal Manager, Mbulelo Memani, said the new fleet belongs to everyone in Bitou.

“The community also must take responsibility for the new fleet and report any vehicle misuse directly to my office,” Memani added.
