Fire and Rescue Services
Bitou Fire and Rescue Service is responsible for two primary functions strategic objective to we provide emergency response for a myriad of calls, mostly fire suppression and technical rescue; and to provide locally mandated fire prevention services which includes, fire safety inspections, fire code enforcement along with public education and awareness.
Law Enforcement
The Law Enforcement Section is responsible for Law Enforcement, VIP Protection and Security Services. Municipal Law Enforcement mandated by Government Gazette 23868 of 26 September 2002, to address short falls and hardships experienced by Municipalities in South Africa relating by-law empowerment, Business Act 1991 (Act 71 of 1991), Occupational Health and Safety and land use planning. The Fire Brigade Act, 1987 etc.
Disaster Management
Bitou Disaster Management with all sections and departments believe together we can take great strides to try and reduce the occurrence or impact of disasters and ensure that we can cope in the best way possible when they do occur. DISASTER MANAGEMENT IS EVERYONE’S BUSINESS.
Thusong Centres
Thusong Centres and Thusong Mobiles are hubs where a basket of government services are available. Thusong Centres and Mobiles essentially bring government services to communities often located in remote areas.
Waste Management
Provision of basic services: cleaning, collection and waste disposal. In terms of Schedule 5B of the Constitution of South Africa (Act 108 of 1996), waste management is a local government competence that must be executed to protect human and environmental health (Constitution, S.24). The statutory obligation of local government is framed by the Local Government Municipal Systems Act (Act No. 32 of 2000), or MSA.
