Overview

The Bitou Municipality is committed to develop and maintain a culture of good governance that complements formal representative government with a system of participatory governance.

  • To strengthen ward committees and their sector in the community;
  • To narrow the gap between the elected and the communities through Imbizo’s and roadshows.

Key Performance Areas

Good governance has eight (8) major characteristics:

Participation, Consensus Orientated, Accountability, Transparency, Responsiveness, Effectiveness and Efficiency, Equity and Inclusiveness and follows the Rule of Law.

It assures that corruption is minimised, the views of the minorities are taken into account and that the voices of the most vulnerable in the community are heard in decision making. Through this policy, the Bitou Local Municipality commits itself to establish appropriate mechanisms, processes and procedures to enable the community of Bitou to participate in the affairs of the municipality in terms of the provisions in Local Government: Municipal System Act, No 32 of 2000.
