Overview

We attend to traffic control, registration of motor vehicles, traffic fines, warrants,  road safety and traffic signs.

Your motor vehicle needs to be registered and licensed to comply with national legislation.  If you live within the boundaries of Bitou, you can do so at Motor Vehicle Registration Office in Anchor Cres, Plettenberg Bay, 6600.

There are over a million vehicles currently registered on the Electronic National Traffic Information System (eNatis) (ITP, 2009), which is the official register for all vehicle, driving licence, contravention and accident data.

Vehicle licence payments
You can pay your vehicle licence fees by following these two easy steps:

Postal payments
Post your renewal notice (a MVL2 form) with a cheque made payable to Bitou Municipality to the Motor Vehicle Registration and Licensing Department, Private Bag X1002, Plettenberg Bay, 6600.

In person payments
To renew your motor vehicle licence in person, please bring your renewal notice

(a MVL2 form) to Motor Vehicle Registration office.  If you do not have one, you will need:

  • A fully completed and signed Application for Licensing of Motor Vehicle (ALV) form
  • Acceptable identification of the registered owner of the vehicle. If a person other than the owner is renewing  the licence, they will need:
  • A fully completed Application for Licensing of Motor Vehicle (ALV) form 
  • Acceptable identification of the registered owner of the vehicle
  • A letter signed by the registered owner giving the bearer permission to renew the licence on behalf of the registered owner.
  • Acceptable identification of the bearer

To renew a vehicle licence for a body of persons, such as a business, trust, church and/or organization in person, please bring the following to Motor Vehicle Registration office:

  • A fully completed and signed Application for Licensing of Motor Vehicle (ALV) form
  • Acceptable identification of the appointed proxy/representative if applicable
  • Acceptable identification of a person other than the appointed proxy/representative, provided the bearer has a letterhead authorizing him/her to obtain the licence on behalf of the body of person
