60 Phakamisani Primary School learners went home with big smiles this week as they were the recipients of uniform vouchers donated by the Bitou Municipality.
This donation follows a strategic partnership between Nedbank, Bitou Municipality and the Bitou Social Development Forum.
In total, 207 vouchers will be handed over to deserving learners pre-selected at Plettenberg Bay’s five schools.
To date, Bitou has handed over 17 vouchers at Wittedrift Primary School worth R8500, while at Phakamisani, 60 vouchers were donated worth R30 000.
At the Phakamisani Primary leg of the school's tour, the Bitou Executive leadership, which comprised Mayor Jessica Kamkam, Deputy Mayor Cllr Nokuzola Kolwapi, Council Speaker, Cllr Mavis Busakwe and Councillor Renicia Willemse, were met by excited learners.
Speaking emphatically to the learners, all the leaders gave inspiring words to the eager youths.
Cllr Kamkam focused on uplifting the kids’ confidence, saying that they were all wonderfully made in the image of God.
As a former teacher, Cllr Kolwapi took the opportunity to educate the youths about the role of the municipality in the community.
She further encouraged them to stay in school so that they could become leaders of the future.
Meanwhile, Principal Mthobi Fihla, could not hide the elation.
He said: “Thanks to the mayor, Nedbank and Bitou and thank you to everyone who took part in ensuring that our kids get these vouchers.”
Next week, Bitou will be heading to three schools.
