Bitou Municipality Law Enforcement officials embarked on a campaign to demolish informal structures that have invaded municipal land in Qolweni this week. 

The structures were not only unsafe for inhabitation, but they were also fast becoming crime hotspots in the area. 

Senior Law Enforcement Officer, Mr. Xolani Bangela, said they were enforcing the street, road and anti-invasion by-law. 

"Some of the shacks are built very close to each other, and some of them too close to the road and others on sewage pipes."

Law Enforcement Inspector, Angelique Coetzee, also pleaded with residents to work with them by reporting structures that were putting everyone at risk. 

"The aim is to improve their living conditions," she added.
