Crime, using of weapons and drug abuse is becoming a problem in schools, that is why Bitou Public Safety Officials and other stakeholders performed an inspection at Plettenberg Bay Secondary School this week.
Stakeholders present included the Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association, Bitou Traffic Officers, Bitou Law Enforcement Officers, and ADT where they searched for drugs and weapons using a detection dog.
Bitou Law Enforcement Inspector, Sindelwa Mkitha, said more of these operations were planned to make schools around Bitou safer.
Expanding on the operation at Plettenberg Bay Secondary Mkitha said a few weapons were confiscated which included knives and other sharp objects.
She said the sniffer dog picked up scents of drugs, however no drugs were ultimately found on the pupils.
“The operation was a success and serves as a warning to pupils to not bring weapons and drugs to school.”
“Next on the cards will be Murray High School,” she added.
