Thousands of rands worth of liquor and expired food items were confiscated by Bitou Public Safety officials in collaboration with key law enforcement partners, including SAPS.
This health and safety blitz is part of a campaign of keeping residents safe.
On Friday, operations began in Witterdrift where two shops were inspected with a health inspector from Garden Route District Municipality.
Expired food items including baby food, cool drink, chips and spices were confiscated and sent to the Bitou transfer site.
Inspectors moved on to Kranshoek where a tavern was found to be operating without a trading permit, was immediately shut down.
All the alcohol, fridges and empty bottles found on the premises were confiscated and the owner arrested.
Senior Inspector from Bitou Law Enforcement Mr. Xolani Bangela says that these campaigns are crucial because they protect the public from consuming expired products, which pose a health risk.
He further said that the campaign is carried out in all areas, and shop owners must be warned that it is a serious offense to sell expired food to the public.
At the weekend, Bitou law enforcement officials also raided three illegal taverns in the Crags area and closed them down.
The team further conducted stop and search operations at Qolweni, Kwanokuthula and New Horizons.
Bangela said: “Various operations are happening around town weekly, those who are in contravention of our laws must be warned.”
