The Western Cape (WC) Government, Dept of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) aims to provide access to economic opportunities with a focus on employability as a key component of the “Growth for Jobs” strategy which envisages a jobs-rich, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient provincial economy.
The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) is collaborating with the WC Government, (DEDAT) on a three-year programme to drive capital access for Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Western Cape.
The JSE and WC, DEDAT will also work with other institutions: the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), SMEs, the private sector, capital providers, and SME development organisations to drive this programme that targets SME development and capital access.
To kick this programme off, the JSE and DEDAT will be hosting a Capital Matching Initiative in the Western Cape.
The aim of this initiative is to match 100 companies with capital providers and enable an increase in SME growth and job creation in the province.

Capital Matching solutions offered by capital providers:
- Debt solutions
- Equity Solutions: Angel and Venture Capital
- Enterprise Supply Development (ESD)
- Grant Funding
Minimum Requirements for SMEs to apply:
- Revenue of over R10 million per annum
- History of active operation for over 2 years
- Clear growth strategy
- Funding requirements of over R1 million
- Business operations and generating employment in the Western Cape region.
The initiative consists of three phases, recruitment, capital, or investor readiness support for the SMEs and will culminate into an event in Cape Town.
Please note that a mandatory registration fee of R5 500 for the Capital Readiness training is required for all companies that will participate in the initiative.
Timelines:
Recruitment will continue until 31 July 2023
Capital Readiness Workshop: 1 August 2023 to 13 October 2023
Capital Matching Event: 27 November 2023
