IMPORTANT NOTICE

THE 16 POSITIONS OF GENERAL ASSISTANTS/GENERAL WORKERS EXISTS AT VARIOUS DIRECTORATES WITHIN THE MUNICIPALITY AS LISTED BELOW.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES FOR ALL 16 POSITIONS ARE THE SAME

Grade 10/ Standard 8 (NQF2) Relevant experience in a similar environment will be an added advantage

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS FOR ALL 16 POSITIONS ARE THE SAME

Be able to communicate in at least two (2) of the three (3) official languages of the Western Cape ● Be prepared to be hands on ● Physically sound and healthy ● Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions Must be responsible, disciplined and able to work in a team environment Ability to give attention to detail Be able to work after normal working hours, shifts and planned overtime

BELOW FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE DIFFERENT POSITIONS

GENERAL WORKER: CEMETERIES (2 positions)

Performs labouring activities associated with providing support during the preparation of burial sites● Maintain the cleanliness of the cemetery grounds and facilities ● Cleans worksites, stores equipment/tools and loads/offloads materials prior to and from worksites. ● Comply to safety procedures and guidelines (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993)

GENERAL WORKER: ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE (SITE CLEARING, TRENCHES AND TRANSPORT) (3 positions)

Performs labouring activities associated with providing support during electrical installations, repair and maintenance sequences.● Cleaning and removing blockages, debris and alien vegetation from/ around the premises of electrical distribution systems or trimming vegetation interfering with overhead lines and cables ● Cleans worksites, stores equipment/tools and loads/offloads materials prior to and from worksites. ● Comply to safety procedures and guidelines (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993)

GENERAL ASSISTANTS: WATER PURIFICATION (5 positions)

Performs general labouring activities associated with maintaining the cleanliness of the water purification plant and grounds ●Assist Supervisor with minor repairs, clear blockages trim shrubs and overgrown vegetation and general maintenance activities ●Clean and stores equipment/ tools and load/off loads of materials/ chemicals ● Comply to safety procedures and guidelines (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993)

GENERAL ASSISTANT: WASTE WATER PURIFICATION (2 positions)

Performs general labouring activities associated with maintaining the cleanliness of the waste water purification plant and grounds ●Assist Supervisor with minor repairs, clear blockages, cleaning drying beds, trim shrubs and overgrown vegetation and general maintenance activities ●Clean and stores equipment/ tools, load/offload of materials/ chemicals ● Comply to safety procedures and guidelines (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993)

GENERAL ASSISTANT: WASTE WATER RETICULATION (1 position)

Perform general labouring activities associated with maintenance and repair works to waste water reticulation system ●Assist Supervisor with minor repairs of sewer mains, clearing blockages, cleaning manholes and general maintenance activities ●Clean worksites, stores equipment, load/offload of materials prior to and from worksites● Comply to safety procedures and guidelines (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993

GENERAL ASSISTANT: ROADS INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE (1 position)

Perform general labouring activities associated with maintenance and repair work to storm water and drainage systems ●Assist the Supervisor to excavate defined areas using handheld tools, laying of materials and reinforcement products (concrete blocks, etc.), cleaning or clearing blockages and removing debris from drainage systems ●Clean worksites, stores equipment, load/off load materials prior to and from worksites● Comply to safety procedures and guidelines (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993)

GENERAL ASSISTANTS: STREET CLEANING AND PUBLIC PLACES (2 positions)

Performs labouring activities associated with maintaining the cleanliness of streets and public open places ● Sweep, gather and load litter and general waste and place in designated areas/vehicles ● Cleans and stores equipment/tools.● Comply to safety procedures and guidelines (Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993)
