QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: ● Relevant B Degree in Chemistry/ Microbiology or equivalent NQF 7 qualification; ●5years sound experience in the management of a general chemical and microbiological laboratory pertaining to water quality monitoring.
REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS: ●LIMS, Water pollution, GIS, Database development and maintenance ●Code B driver’s license. ● Computer skills (MS Office applications; MS Projects, PROMIS, etc.) ●Proficiency in at least 2 of the 3 official languages of the Western Cape ●Good communication and interpersonal skills● Good problem solving skills ● Ability to work and perform under pressure ●Ability to handle stress and make on site decisions ● Willing to be on standby and to work outside normal working hours during emergencies and planned overtime ● Ability to delegate and supervise ●Proficiency in the application of the Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.
FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: ●Render water quality assurance and monitoring services for Bitou and outlying areas ●Coordinate and execute operational and compliance procedures associated with the provisions of a quality and efficient service ●Ensure that the division is capacitated to deliver on legal requirements and priorities to maintain acceptable standards with regards to water quality ●Coordinate and control tasks associated with operation and compliance ●Monitoring performance and productivity within the jurisdiction of the Water Services Authority (WSA) to ensure legislative compliance ●Ensure that optimum operational functionality levels are maintained and actions, procedures and corrective measures implemented to address major disruptions and/or deviations impacting the quality and continuity of services ●Prepare capital and operating budgets for the section and controls expenditure against the approved budget allocations ●Ensure that water quality from industrial sources are in compliance with laid down legislation and policy of the Water Services Authority and ensure that these discharges don’t impact on natural resources● Monitor potable water to comply with requirements to maintain “Blue Drop” and “Green Drop” status for the municipality ●Keep abreast of current trends, legislative changes and technological developments in the profession.
