The Golf Day hosted by the Executive Mayor of Bitou in aid of the Mayor’s Bursary Fund, took place at the Plettenberg Bay Country Club.
The money raised will be in utilised in support of education and skills development within the Bitou Municipal boundaries. The Golf Day took place on Friday, 16 October.
Bitou Executive Mayor, Memory Booysen said, “Every year at the end of January we host a Bursary and Grant-In-Aid Awards Ceremony which is funded through events of this nature and mainly the Mayoral Golf Day. The money allocated to the Mayoral Social Relief and Bursary fund is there to aid enthusiastic and prospective students and to give capacity to local NGO’s / NPO’s and CBO’s in their endeavour to embark on community projects.”
On 29 January 2015, bursaries with a total value of R341 000 were awarded to 62 deserving students.
Mayor Booysen commended the greater public on making this initiative such a success. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from the organisers, sponsors to the golfers of the day and everyone else who have been so supportive of this event”. He also further thanked the auctioneer, Brian Edwards who facilitated the auction of various items to further up the monies raised.
On 29 October the window period for Municipal Bursaries and Grant-In-Aid applications will be opened until 31 December 2015. Application forms will be available at the various municipal libraries and municipal website.
